The short version
PromptGo keeps the content you save in local browser storage. PromptGo does not require an account, does not include analytics or advertising trackers, and does not send your saved library to PromptGo-operated servers.
1. Who We Are
PromptGo is a free Chrome browser extension that helps you save, organize, and reuse AI prompts and chat snippets. No PromptGo account is required.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
Your PromptGo library is stored in chrome.storage.local, the browser storage area used by the extension.
The following data may be stored there:
- Prompts — titles, body text, tags, timestamps, starred state, and group assignments.
- Snippets — text you choose to save, page URL, page title, domain, timestamps, and, when available, locally extracted conversation context from the selected portion of a supported AI chat.
- Bookmarks — URLs, page titles, domain names, saved timestamps, starred state, and last-visited timestamps.
- Groups — names and identifiers used to organize prompts and snippets.
- Variable history — recent values you entered for prompt-template variables.
- Recents — a short list of recently used prompt or snippet identifiers.
PromptGo also stores the floating-button corner preference in the supported AI site's own browser localStorage. That preference is local to that site and browser profile.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
PromptGo does not operate analytics, advertising, or account systems for the extension.
- We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, or device identifier.
- We do not collect analytics, usage telemetry, or advertising identifiers.
- We do not receive crash reports or error logs through a PromptGo tracking service.
- We do not monitor or record your keystrokes.
- We do not receive your saved prompts, snippets, bookmarks, or groups.
PromptGo includes no third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels.
4. Permissions and Why We Need Them
PromptGo 1.0.1 requests these Chrome extension permissions:
- storage — to store your PromptGo library locally.
- tabs— to read the active tab's URL and title when you create a bookmark, open saved bookmarks, and communicate with the active supported AI tab for prompt insertion.
- sidePanel— to display PromptGo in Chrome's side panel.
- Host permissionsfor ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity — to run PromptGo's content script on those supported AI sites so the floating launcher, save controls, snippet capture, and direct prompt insertion can work.
PromptGo 1.0.1 does not request the activeTab or scripting permissions.
5. Content Script Behavior
On supported AI chat sites, PromptGo runs a content script so extension features can appear and interact with the page.
- It displays the floating PromptGo button used to open the side panel.
- After you select text, it temporarily reads that selection to determine whether to show the save toolbar. The selection is not stored just because the toolbar appears.
- If you choose Save Prompt, PromptGo stores the selected text locally as a prompt.
- If you choose Save Snippet, PromptGo stores the selected text, current page URL and title, domain, and locally extracted context from the selected portion of the conversation when the supported site's page structure allows it.
- When you insert a saved prompt, the content script receives that prompt from the PromptGo side panel and places it into the supported AI site's chat input.
PromptGo does not monitor your typing. Content used for these features is processed locally by the extension and is not transmitted to PromptGo-operated servers.
6. Data Sharing and Transmission
PromptGo does not sell or share your saved library with advertisers or data brokers, and the extension does not transmit your saved library to PromptGo-operated servers.
When you use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity, your interaction with those services remains subject to the privacy practices of the service you are using. PromptGo does not control those services.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
PromptGo library data remains in chrome.storage.local until you delete it in PromptGo or remove the extension. Removing the extension removes its extension-local storage according to Chrome's extension-storage behavior.
The floating-button corner preference is stored separately in each supported site'slocalStorage and may remain until that site's browser storage is cleared.
PromptGo provides JSON, Markdown, and CSV export tools so you can back up or move your saved content.
8. Children's Privacy
PromptGo does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because PromptGo does not operate an account, analytics, or server-side data collection system for the extension, we do not receive age information from users.
9. Changes to This Policy
If PromptGo's data handling changes, we will update this policy and revise the fixed "Last updated" date above. Material privacy changes may also be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.
